JUST SAYIN’

Today I was looking around the streams of my Flickr contacts and I came across these two beautiful patches that were made out of my friend Tony.

Shouldn’t the boy scouts have a badge for nocturnal emissions?

If they did, what would the damn patch look like?

No, I haven’t suddenly developed an interest in teenage boys, I was looking at my friend Tony’s wonderful work - commissioned illustrations made into Boy Scout badges: These two visible here. And a really gorgeous one here!

I started this back in January of 2008 and the whole comment vis a vis nocturnal emissions was for shock value more than anything else but today, the Boy Scouts of America is in the midst of a bankruptcy proceeding.

The reason of course is because of sexual abuse because all our institutions.

Today, society is about the zero sum game, there are no areas of grey only black and white. Of course the main goal here is to undermine the institutions of our society no matter how much good they may have done or accomplished and we see that again and again and again.

It’s happened to the Boy Scouts, it happened to the Church, it is happening with the Police...

This is not progress that we are talking about either, these are ways of undermining our society. It’s not that bad things don’t happen, it’s not that there aren’t bad people out in the world doing things they have no business doing but it’s more about painting things with a very broad brush so that these institutions no longer have a place in our everyday lives.

What fills that vacuum I wonder? Can we honestly say it will be something better?

Over the last year plus there has been an assault on law enforcement - it’s been done by the Left helped along with the media. It’s absolutely shameful and it does a disservice to so many hard-working, good people who help us each and every day.

Do I like it if I run into a cop that’s a dick to me? Not particularly.

Do I like getting a ticket if I’m stopped? Not really.

Thing is, I grew up being taught not to fight with Police.

I had the Police pull their guns on me once. I don’t know if I’ve written about that story and it happened out in California. I’m not going to go into elaborate detail about it just this moment but the idiot I was with was saved because I was there and because I had the presence of mind to handle the situation in the right way.

It wasn’t hard really, there were moments I was scared because it was one of the few times I’ve had a weapon pointed in my general direction (and it has happened a few times actually). Thing is I didn’t fight and because I didn’t fight things went a certain way.

Lately, every time I see one of these encounters with Police taking a wrong turn it has to do as much with the person involved in the situation as it does with the Police themselves. Yet, there are people who want to blame the Police entirely and what’s even better about that is that the end result of all of this means that the very people who are screaming the loudest about it will now live more dangerous lives and are even more likely to be victims of crime because they targeted the wrong people.

Undermining society’s institutions can have a bad payback for people they just don’t get that until it’s too late.
